Lipstick On A Pig

This phrase may soon change its meaning.

"Lipstick on a pig" was a colloquialism to mean "spin" or unsuccessfully trying to put a good face on a very bad situation.

It is turning into verbal shorthand for "insincere but politically expedient outrage over a trumped-up cause." The Weirdo Left has never had a monopoly on this kind of chip-on-shoulder tactic, but then again, neither has the Weirdo Right. But it's getting pinned on the GOP now because for whatever reason, people aren't letting go of this. It's become more than a little bit silly. My friend just renamed his fantasy football team "Lipstick on a Pig."

This is not a big deal. It doesn't matter who is right anymore. Move along, people.
