National Day of Reason

Today is the National Day of Reason. Yes, I know many of you observe it as the National Day of Prayer and a large number of civic leaders, from the President on down to local mayors, have held prayer breakfasts. While prayer sounds like a nice thing, it is an ultimately futile activity.
Personaly, I think it is a distraction from the very real problems we face as a society, and that our leaders should be addressing. One thing that you as an individual can do, if you are healthy, is make a donation of blood to a local hospital. Please give blood today. Prayers are nice, but blood saves lives.

Mr Washington would have to disagree with you since he added in his first year on Nov. 26 as "A Day of Publick Thanksgiving and Prayer".

Of course maybe he was extending the Christmas shopping season.

I disagree. Had blood transfusions been known in Washington's day, I suspect he would have been entirely in favor of them.
