Vermillion Sunset
The fires that seem to be consuming all of California and draping our fine desert valley in a melancholy layer of gray haze do bring one thing of note -- spectacular sunsets. Less so the sunrises; the smoke dissipates out over the desert. But to the west, where more fires are resident, the smoke filters out some of the harsher light and leaves a brilliant, ruby color to the orb of the sun surrounded by a copper haze. Sadly, this spectacular display lasts only a half hour or so and then is replaced by the same gray haze as before, only a little bit darker.
