The Governor of Maine today signed a bill authorizing same-sex marriages in that state. As with Vermont, this was a law initiated within the Legislature, not the courts, and which gained majority support in the political branches of the state's government.
Five out of the fifty states in this nation (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and Iowa are the others) now recognize same-sex marriages. Incremental progress is better than none.

I just saw this [Advertising will be deleted permanently.] Is this a blogger rule?
No, it's mine.
And yes, I wish someone would tell the President to get on board the SSM bus. It's a shame he lacks the political courage to do so.
TL,
Although Obama believes that marriage is between a man and a women, I certainly don't see him proposing a constitutional amendment to ban SSM or appointing a SC justice opposed to SSM, unlike many members of the Republican party.
I'll take Obama's lack of political courage over the Republican party's religion-based discrimination and hypocrisy every day.
