Virginia Postrel is the head of a think tank called the Reason Foundation. I'm generally a fan; she is a good writer and I find myself in ideological sympathy with her very frequently. In Forbes magazine, she recently reminded her readers that not every challenge to science, learning, and innovation comes from the American religious right; there are leftists who offer substantial challenges to science at variance with their version of orthodoxy (considering both means and ends) as well.
I've not time to elaborate on what I think of Ms. Postrel's points at the moment, but I commend her column to you, my Loyal Readers.
