I hadn't seen this video segment before, but this completely confirms my suspicion that Glenn Beck is a bat-shit-crazy christian fundamentalist.

I have relatives who love his show. Slowly I am seeing them getting brainwashed with all his nonsense. How do I stop that? Or are they already a lost cause? Note: They also listen to Limbaugh.Friendly Technocrathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09519350934207538519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13589532.post-87192978872804941622009-09-30T10:21:50.319-07:002009-09-30T10:21:50.319-07:00Thanks for this. I used to think Glenn Beck was a...Thanks for this. I used to think Glenn Beck was a harmless lunatic, but the more his profile rises, the more his lunacy makes me crazy. For me, this rant on the anniversary of 9/11 put me over the top:

Glenn Beck's Tearful Rant About 9/11 & "Freedom"

This is absurd on so many levels, but here are three that I think stand out in the "OLIGARHY" school.

1. There actually has been progress on the new buildings. However, most of the work that's been done is to the building's foundation and sub-levels so are not visible in aerial photographs. And, at the time of this rant, construction reaches 105 feet above ground.

2. The Hoover dam was a phenomenal feat of engineering. However, I'm not sure what the point he's trying to make about all the workers who died. Most of the 19th and early 20th century construction projects in this country have horrible worker fatality statistics which were influential in both the creation of labor unions and workplace safety regulations. Much of the reason why large-scale construction projects take so much longer now, is precisely because we've gotten better at keeping workers from dying or being injured. Beck's point here escapes me.

3. Lastly, his use of the relative timing differential between the Empire State Building and the 1 WTC is interesting. See point two for my issues with celebrating "throwing hot rivets by hand" and the impact of workplace safety improvements on construction time. Beyond that, however, one can't help but wonder what Beck would say to the fact that most of the 3400 workers who built the damned thing were immigrants!Matt Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09912819476039642057noreply@blogger.com
