I spent the entire post expounding my critical thought about Palin's comment.

Please note my last sentence: "...I am critical of Palin for that lack of thinking it through and instead slipping into the same sort of "us-versus-them" polarization that has tainted American politics." It was a red flag, devoid of objective meaning, thrown out for no reason other than to polarize.

I agree that some Republicans have rallied their base against, as you say, "nonwhite, educated and/or urban" people, and I've been quite critical of that tactic on these pages for a long time now.

But your visceral reaction to the comment -- especially coming as it does so long after it was made and so long after the defeat of the McCain-Palin ticket -- says quite a lot about who you are and what you believe.

Your comment leaves the impression that you are much a part of the problem of hyper-polarization as you accuse Sarah Palin. In other words, you seem to attribute to Palin's malice that which could be adequately explained by her incompetence. Thus, you too buy into the hyper-polarization game. We should be speaking to one another to find solutions to our common problems, not shouting past one another for no purpose other than eliciting emotional responses.Burt Likkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16060980744675990412noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13589532.post-18298376361952842912009-01-28T06:04:00.000-08:002009-01-28T06:04:00.000-08:00It's pretty obvious *you* haven't bothered to "thi...It's pretty obvious *you* haven't bothered to "think critically" about what an "offhand remark" that "wasn't thought about" really means.

It means if you have so completely internalized the obvious "truths" of the decades-long conservative war on the the nonwhite, educated and,or urban population of this country ("truths" that say these people are subversive, nonpatriotic snobs who hate Christianity and white married people, truths have been shamelessly used to gin up votes) that you can toss out an "offhand remark" "without thinking" about what is means that in and of itself says something about what kind of America-and American-you think is of value. Offhand, thoghtless or not, it says a great deal about who Sarah Palin is and what she believes.Catlady Bluehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17887702177823514416noreply@blogger.com
