Rear Bearing

When the rear bearing on your washing machine goes out, that pretty much means you need to replace it; it can cost nearly as much to fix that part as to replace the unit. Which pretty much sucks. When it goes out, you'll know it because during the spin cycle the machine will sound like a jet engine getting fired up for takeoff, punctuated with horrid thunka-thunka-thunka-thunka sounds akin to a teenager learning how to drive stickshift.

How do I know this, you ask? Suffice to say that The Wife and I had been thinking about going to Paris next year. But now we're worried about having clean clothing next week. One may be more important than the other, but it's a hell of a lot less exciting to be going to Sears than it would be to go to France.

  1. I kind of love our Samsung front-loader. It plays a perky little tune when it's done.

  2. I'm going to give props to our Maytag 5000 frontloader. My wife is a laundry nut and she's never been happier. Clean, quiet, efficient... However, I'm thinking it's too big for you guys. We've got two kids and have to wait a week or more before we create a full load.

On the other hand, before we moved, I fixed my old washer myself! Save some $$ and man up!!!
