I Believe They Would Have Been Called "Censors" But That Won't Work Today

Patrick at Popehat revives a very interesting idea of a fourt branch of government, co-equal to Congress, the Courts, and the Presidency, that would have as its sole power the ability to purge old, useless laws from the books.

  1. I'd like to run for The Tribunate! At first I thought it not such a good idea because nothing would get done. But, that 5-10 year buffer between when a law gets enacted and when it can be abolished helps. It may let some laws get tested and opinion might change.

This branch, would it/should it have power over state's laws? Or does the SCOTUS deal with that.

I wonder what laws the public would repeal.
