Okay, let's see how many interesting hits I get while being cruised on Google with that headline!
But the link is about a few articles concerning experiments churches are conducting, asking their married parishioners to have lots of sex.* The idea is to "reclaim sex for marriage." Unclear whether contraception is allowed. Unclear whether, and if so how, the Biblical injunction against sex during the woman's menstrual cycle is circumvented.
So, one church says, hey everybody, go make the beast with two backs for seven days straight! Another said, no, that's too easy -- you should try to get it on within the sanctity of holy matrimony for thirty days straight. And then there's one woman wrote a book about giving her husband sex** for 365 days in a row. Because nothing says "we have a healthy attitude about sex" like doing it even when neither of you really want to.
Now, no one sees anything wrong with married couples having sex with one another -- although I should add the caveat that I believe that there is such a thing as marital rape, and if one spouse does not want to have sex, the other spouse is required to accept that. I have known some very socially conservative people who think that marital rape is a theoretical impossibility. They are quite wrong.
I see one advantage to this -- it would really cut down on adultery. With that kind of a schedule of marital sex, who would have the energy to fool around with anyone else?
But having sex when sex is not really wanted is no more healthy than having no sex when sex is wanted. That might not be a particularly elegant phrasing of the concept. What I'm saying is, sex should not be a chore, it should be fun. You should do it because you want to do it, not because your pastor tells you to.
* An aside to The Wife: You know, honey, there is a lot that we can learn from our Christian friends.
** That's how it was phrased -- she "gave" her husband sex. As if she got nothing out of the deal herself other than a book deal.
